Before you were created in your mother’s womb, God gave you an assignment for your life; this assignment is also your destiny. Your destiny can only be fulfilled by using your unique gift or talent. Because God uses your destiny to impact the lives of others, it is important to pursue your dreams because your gift is specific to the people that you are to touch. When you are misplaced, those people are left without a visible representation of God. Remember, your gift comes natural and it is something that you enjoy doing. It may be hard for some to identify, but for most it is what you had a passion for when you were a child (see “Pursing Abandoned Dreams”).
Consider the following definitions:
• Destiny – the purpose for which you were born; God’s direct assignment for your life which ultimately produces eternal happiness and fulfillment
• Destine – to set , ordain, or appoint to use
• Gift/Talent – to be endowed with great natural ability or intelligence of superior quality
According to the above, God has given us gifts and talents that we are to use to impact the world and to bring Him glory. This is what mankind was designed to do in our original form. Man was to turn the rest of the undeveloped world into Eden. However, like Adam and Eve, we too are often sidetracked from our mission and become absorbed by society’s negative influences. Thus our talents lie dormant as we migrate daily to unfulfilling jobs.
Life’s Negative Influences
Take a moment and evaluate how the negative influences listed below have robbed you of your dreams and aspirations.
| Negative Influence |
Result |
1. Environment |
the smaller the environment, the smaller the dream |
2. Culture |
whatever is negative in your culture will cause you to think negative about yourself |
3. Upbringing |
negative situations in the home |
4. Education |
no formal knowledge or training; wrong major/ field of study |
5. Doctrine |
religious teachings and beliefs |
6. Unforgiveness |
holding on to past hurts |
7. Self-image |
how you see yourself when you look in the mirror |
8. Perception |
what you believe is waiting for you in the future |
Although these deterrents were able to sidetrack us, God still has purpose for our lives. Even if we are on the wrong track, He has devised a plan to reset our course and order our steps.

Your Part
5 Steps to Destiny – You must:
1. Get fed up with what you have become and the limitations that life has placed
on you. Get tired of not walking in your destiny!
2. Change your daily routines and thought patterns. This is the “Box” that has
ensnared you for so long. Continuing to do the same things every day
expecting different results is insane. Change what you do and who you hang
out with in order to achieve desired results.
3. Convince your own mind that your destiny is HUGE and that it will impact the
world!
4. Ask God everyday to create, form, and build your destiny on the inside of you
until it becomes a part of who you are. Your destiny must become a living,
breathing organism that consumes you.
5. Finally, FOCUS. Focus on what God is showing you, follow His instructions,
and do not be distracted. Allow yourself to be possessed by the spirit of your
divine destiny.
God’s Part
When you have done your part, God will respond by doing those things that you cannot do. Just ask Oprah Winfrey. Her life is bigger than she could have ever imagined. I’m speaking of more than just a thriving career or a seven figure salary. I’m talking about a destiny that is meant to impact the world. My friend, until you have affected the nations and until your life has exemplified the true and living God, you still have not fulfilled your divine destiny.
An Unstoppable Dream
“When your spirit catches the vision of your destiny, your heart ignites the passion of an unstoppable dream which takes you to a place higher than you have ever imagined, to do what only God makes possible. What is an unstoppable dream? I believe it is one that God has planted in your heart that refuses to die or be forgotten. Most times, it is bigger than life. In other words, it seems impossible for you to accomplish or attain with your natural abilities.” ~ Anita Heymans
An unstoppable dream requires wisdom, persistence, and discipline. Again, once you have done your part, God will respond by doing those things that you cannot. He will move people, places, and things just to ensure that you apprehend your destiny.
So for starters, believe that there is GREATNESS in you, and begin to experience the superabundant lifestyle (both spiritual and natural) that God has predestined just for you which extends infinitely beyond all of your highest hopes and dreams!
